Lampung Robusta from Indonesia — fine robusta without the grade theatre

1. The origin
Lampung, at the southern tip of Sumatra, is one of Indonesia's great robusta belts — harvest available year-round (peak shifted by the region's rainfall), with Panjang as the traditional export port. This is working coffee: caffeine-forward, chocolatey-nutty when well prepared, the backbone of espresso blends and instant lines across Asia and the Middle East.
2. Grades in plain numbers
Indonesian export robusta is graded mostly by defects and moisture — EK1 ("export kindergarten 1", the standard export grade) and finer sorts above it. What matters to your blend is not the letters: it is moisture %, defect count per 350 g, screen size, and cup notes recorded per lot. Those are the four lines on our COA, and the ones we argue about before an order, not after.
3. The honest market view
Indonesia grew ~12.5 million bags in 2025/26 with green-bean exports up ~27% y/y (USDA GAIN ID2025-0039); robusta is most of the volume. We will not pretend Lampung out-competes Vietnam's bulk machine — it does not, on price, and saying so is part of our quality promise. Where Lampung wins is single-origin fine robusta for blends: verified lot origin, honest defect counts, and lanes where Indonesia's trade agreements cut your landed cost — 0% into Malaysia/Singapore under ATIGA, and Form E (ACFTA) keeps most China lines at 0% if your volumes are FCL-scale.
4. Documents and QC
Every lot: invoice, packing list, COO (Form D/E per destination), and the COA with moisture, defects, screen and cup notes. Third-party inspection at loading can be appointed by you; retained samples match lot codes. Same document-consistency rule as every TapakNusa shipment — lot code and weight identical across the whole set.
5. What we can honestly promise today
Lampung robusta is in our sourcing calendar as a lot-confirmed origin: we aggregate from registered smallholders and estates with traceable lots, cup and document, then quote. Samples first; LCL from ~300 kg; FCL contracts once a program repeats. For instant-scale volumes, we will tell you plainly when your volume belongs with an aggregator, not with us.
Fine robusta or commodity EK1?
Both exist here. Tell us your cup target and blend share; we quote the sort that meets it, with the defect count to prove the price difference is real.
Steam treatment / acrylamide concerns for EU blends?
Steam-treated robusta is available via partner facilities for EU programs — quoted per lot with the treatment certificate; we never claim treatment without its document.
